The Confluence district in Lyon is the perfect example of a neighborhood that modernizes without compromising on environmental preservation. This former industrial district has therefore attracted many young professionals, shops and offices. A clever mix of rehabilitation (to keep Lyon's heritage alive), and ecological contemporary constructions. All imbued with the same desire: to turn towards sustainable development.

Sites to visit in Confluence district Lyon

1 – La Sucrière

At the heart of the Docks de Lyon Confluence, this former industrial building built in the mid-1930s has been completely renovated. The very trendy industrial aspect has been preserved, to bring real character to this space dedicated to the Lyon Contemporary Art Biennial, international temporary exhibitions, as well as corporate events. The purpose of this space is to blend culture, creation, and communication in a welcoming place that has its own personality, as can already be found in different European capitals.

2 – Musée des Confluences

The architecture of this museum is unlike any other, built in glass, concrete and stainless steel, it offers an extremely contemporary appearance. This museum addresses many subjects related to knowledge: science, technology and societies, it helps to better understand the world, the functioning of our societies.

  • What are the origins of human beings and the earth?
  • What does the human being represent in the world and the environment?
  • Past and future history.

3 – Parc de Saône – Parc de la Confluence

The park consists of 13 ha of basins and 3,000 trees of local species. It's a dream spot for pedestrians and cyclists, or for family walks.

5 – Pont Raymond Barre

Located opposite the Musée des Confluences, it is easily recognizable with its 2 huge arches nearly 17 meters high. Only pedestrians, bikes and trams pass over this bridge which connects the 7th arrondissement to the Confluence district.

6 – The padlock footbridge

Next to the Confluence shopping center, the footbridge that passes over the dock bears a striking resemblance to the Pont des Arts in Paris: lovers can attach a padlock to declare their passion or leave a trace of their love...

7 – Viaduc ferroviaire de la Quarantaine

Admire the architecture of this iron bridge with a tumultuous history: built for the first time in 1852 before it collapsed 2 years later, it was rebuilt in 1856 before finally being replaced by the metal bridge we know today in 1932.
