Organizing a trip to Disneyland is no easy task. You need to understand the different parks, decipher the rates and passes, manage transportation, choose accommodation, book restaurants and find the times for shows and parades.

In short, behind a certainly magical stay, there's a bit of preparation involved.

We have gathered all the essential information to help you optimize your visit and organize your stay in no time!

Some facts about Disneyland

  • The first Disneyland opened in 1955 in the city of Anaheim in California (suburb of Los Angeles). It is the only "Magic Kingdom" known by Walt Disney.
  • The original concept for Walt Disney was to create a place where parents and children could have fun together.
  • Walt had trouble financing the park! He had to sell his house and his life insurance and finally asked for help. It was the BBC that finally finished financing the park (in exchange for a contract on Zorro).
  • There are only 5 Disneylands in the world, in addition to the original! Disneyland Paris is the only park in Europe! Which explains its attendance!
  • Magic Kingdom in Florida – USA
  • Tokyo Disneyland – JAPAN
  • Disneyland Paris – FRANCE
  • Hong Kong Disneyland – CHINA
  • Shanghai Disneyland – CHINA

Presentation of the different parks

Things have changed a lot since the site opened in 1992. At that time, the theme park was called Euro Disneyland, but marketing campaigns shortened it to Euro Disney which you've certainly heard of (if you're over 30!).

Later, the hotel area was grouped together and the whole was named Disneyland Resort Paris, then Disneyland Park when Walt Disney Studio opened.

1. The first park: Disneyland

This is the image you have in mind, with the iconic Sleeping Beauty castle, parades, character meetings, classic attractions and games for children. Even though you'll find some thrill rides like Space Mountain, this park is more aimed at families and children's wonder.

It is divided into 5 themed areas: Main Street, Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Discoveryland.

  • Main Street USA : This is the main street that leads you straight to the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle. This nostalgic recreation of a charming early 20th century American town is largely inspired by the town of Marceline, where Walt Disney spent his childhood. This is where you'll find all the park's shops.
  • Frontierland : the term frontier here is understood in the sense of the last frontier of the United States, the myth of the American West. Here you are in the imagery of the Far West, with cowboys and Indians. This area recreates a scenario of Indians and cowboys. Among its best-known attractions, you'll find the haunted house and Big Thunder Mountain with its mine train.
  • Adventureland: here, you go off to live great adventures at the ends of the earth! You are in a paradisiacal and lush setting. This is the area of pirates and explorers, with, among others, Robinson's treehouse, Indiana Jones roller coaster or the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.
  • Fantasyland : this is the favorite area of the little ones with the magical Disney universe. This is where you'll find, for example, Sleeping Beauty Castle, Alice's Labyrinth and the Mad Hatter's tea cups. The classic images of the park.
  • Discoveryland : make way for the future and modernity! Discoveryland is dedicated to technology and science! This is where Space Mountain or the Buzz Lightyear lightsaber game is located.

2. Walt Disney Studio

In 2002 a second park opened, taking up the concept launched by Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida. An imaginary world dedicated to cinema, television, and designed for an older audience. More modern attractions and more focused on thrills.

Here too, the park is divided into several areas:

  • A cinema world section with Front Lot, Production Courtyard and Toon studio : Welcome to Hollywood! Here, you can discover all the secrets of making a Hollywood movie! You are on the most mythical film sets! This is where you'll find the famous abandoned hotel "Hollywood Tower Hotel" or where you can take selfies with Marvel superheroes, Frozen heroines.
  • A section dedicated to the Marvel universe with Marvel Avengers Campus : new attractions " Avengers Assemble, Flight Force" and Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure".
  • A section dedicated to Pixar with Worlds of Pixar : Experience the Pixar adventure with all your favorite heroes in this section of the park entirely dedicated to them. Attractions designed in the universes of Cars, Ratatouille, Nemo, or Toy Story!

3. Disney Village

Although it's not strictly speaking a park, Disney Village can be part of your stay. It is a shopping area, so you don't need an entrance ticket to visit it. It is open all year round and its hours are longer than those of the two parks presented above.

You'll find restaurants, shops, cinemas and the famous Panora Magique Balloon that rises 100 m above the village.

How long to visit the park?

If you're only visiting the classic Disneyland park with young children, ideally do it in two days. If you've never been there, you may not have really realized how big Disneyland is! The first park is about 50 hectares, more than 70 soccer fields! That's quite a few steps in one day! You'll need to be organized. If you know which attractions you want to discover and your children are older (or you're among adults), you can visit Disneyland Park in one day.

If you want to visit both parks however, you'll need two full days to be sure you have no regrets and don't miss anything.

If you want to fully enjoy both parks, visit them at your own pace, take time to have lunch in its incredible restaurants, shop, and see the shows, then it is often recommended to spend 3 full days on site: 2 days for Disneyland Park and its 5 magical worlds and 1 day at Walt Disney Studio park.

If you found a nice hotel and want to really enjoy the parks while spending time at the hotel pool, then aim for 4 days (3 nights on site).

Which ticket to choose to visit Disneyland Paris?

Tickets:

If you know your availability for the year, and you can travel on fixed dates, then take a dated ticket. The rate is much more advantageous if you buy a specific date. There are several price zones depending on the chosen period (see below).

Think carefully in advance and decide on the number of days you want to spend on site. You can then choose a multi-day ticket. The longer you stay, the cheaper the daily rate.

However, the flexible date ticket can be very useful if you want to offer the Disney experience to someone close who can then go whenever they want.

Passes:

Passes allow you priority access to attractions. Be careful, this doesn't mean there will be no queue at all, just that you'll have access to a dedicated, faster line. Children under 3 can accompany their parents in these express lines without having to pay an additional pass.

  • Disney Premier Access Ultimate : 1 fast lane passage per attraction. No time slots. Can be booked in advance or on the day. Purchase on mobile app, website or by phone as part of a "Hotel + Tickets" stay purchase
  • Disney Premier Access One : 1 fast lane passage on 1 attraction of choice. With time slot. Booked on site via mobile app only.

What budget for visiting Disneyland Paris?

The fateful question when you start planning your Disney trip is obviously, how much will all this cost me and can I afford it?

1 – Transportation:

So first, there's an incompressible part, which is the journey. If you live at the other end of France, you'll have to plan ahead to book a train ticket, because yes, it's certainly by train that you'll find the best deals. OuiGo has very interesting rates for Marne-la-Vallée, often more advantageous and less tiring than the highway + fuel addition (which won't get any better, let's be honest!)

  • Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy station leaves you 200 meters from the park.
  • Tickets departing from all major French cities: from €10 (price varies enormously depending on dates and advance booking).

2 –The park:

Here too, prices vary quite a bit depending on dates. If you plan ahead, travel in off-season, and choose a dated ticket, the price starts at €52 child rate and €56 adult rate. This is the lowest you can pay for the 2023-2024 season. If you buy your ticket on site the same day, the rate goes up to €105 for an adult (1 park).

There are three types of rates and each comes in 7 date categories:

3 –Accommodation:

If you plan to spend the entire weekend at Disneyland, which is essential if you want to visit both parks, you'll need to sleep somewhere!

If budget is not a problem, then treat yourself and extend the experience in one of the 6 Disney hotels (they will be presented below).

Price for two adults, including both entrances to both parks for 2 days:

  • 4 stars : between €500 and €1550
  • 3 stars : between €350 and €950
  • 2 stars : prices between €330 and €850

You can also check out partner hotels that offer free shuttles to the park.

For a medium budget, head to classic hotel chains (Campanile, B&B etc.) located 2 km from the site. You can reach them in about twenty minutes on foot if you don't want to take the car.

For small budgets, favor apartment rentals like Air Bnb, Abritel etc. in Marne la Vallée or other cities on the RER A line (without going too far).

4 – Restaurants

You need to understand that Disneyland Paris parks deploy a huge tourist offer to satisfy all of the 10 million visitors who flock there each year. So you'll find gourmet restaurants with €100 menus, as well as fast food, buffets, and takeaway snacks. Each area has a great gastronomic offer following the theme of the fantasy world where it is located.

All budgets are therefore possible for the restaurant part and you'll be spoiled for choice in terms of experience.

If you want to spend as little as possible, prepare your picnic! Be careful though, knives and forks are not allowed at the park entrance. Think sandwiches!

What is the best time to come to Disneyland Paris?

Travel off-season to stay away from crowds

If you're reluctant to come to Disneyland because you don't like crowds and already sigh at the thought of waiting two hours in line per attraction, travel off-season! If you're lucky enough to be able to come outside school holidays, do it! On weekdays? Even better! You can check the attendance calendars that show you (statistically, of course, it's not an exact science!) what the attendance at Disneyland will be day by day each month of the year.

Forget July-August and bet on late September with low attendance from Monday to Thursday in the last two weeks of the month. Early October (still on weekdays) is also a good time to be quiet.

If you have to come on a weekend, know that attendance is relatively constant. If you're only doing one day, bet on Sunday between September and mid-December.

Travel during holidays for even more magic

If on the contrary, crowds don't scare you and you want even more Disney magic, then why not discover the special holiday programs!

This Halloween night, when the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead is thinnest, spirits and fairy tale villains take control of the park (open for the occasion until 2 am). 3 "scary zones" are set up to make young and old shiver with delight (not too young though!) Costumes encouraged for a memorable evening!

Where to eat in Disneyland Paris park?

Photo Disneyland Paris Facebook Page

If you don't have much time ahead of you and want to do the maximum attractions in the day, avoid eating in a restaurant, or at least, not between 12pm and 2pm. The long queues will make you lose precious time.

So eat after 2:30/3pm (and take advantage to have fewer people at the big attractions) or bring your sandwich and eat it quietly on a bench (and not on the forbidden lawns!)

If you want to experience dining in the park, no problem! But remember to book!

Some themed restaurants to try:

  • Cinderella's Inn:Refined French cuisine in a princes and princesses setting.
