A large part of major events in Rennes are festivals, exhibitions and fairs. This is good news if you enjoy themed highlights or meeting people who share your interests.
However, due to weather conditions, events often take place indoors. If the hosting venue allows it, booking your spot in advance will be essential to ensure your participation!
Even though programming varies strictly from year to year, certain events in Rennes are recurring (or tend to become so). Among them, you'll find gatherings of national (even international!) renown. Whatever your current mood, you'll definitely find something to enjoy during your stay in Rennes.

Small in quantity, great in quality, our top selection is a good sample of Rennes' annual programming. Throughout the year, the heart of Ille-et-Vilaine pulses to the rhythm of numerous fairs and festivals. The city is quite active on artistic and cultural levels. Nevertheless, most organized events are unique. We recommend researching in advance, then again some time before your stay, to not miss any occasional highlights.
1. Les Trans Musicales

Description: This international contemporary music festival has been organized in Rennes since 1979, making it a legendary event in the Breton capital! On this occasion, emerging artists from all corners of the planet perform on stage in various Rennes venues. It's a festival resolutely focused on discovering new talented artists, you'll probably see future national, even international stars!
Good to know: Les Trans Musicales include each year "the family concert". Accessible to children from age 6, the event allows them to discover live music from an early age. Check the programming!
2. The Festival of Tastes of Rennes
Date or period: For one week, early October.

Description: Attention gastronomy lovers! This event highlights ethical and fair cuisine through surprise meals in unconventional locations, meeting producers and restaurateurs committed to sustainable practices. Combining good cuisine and sustainable development has never been so easy and enjoyable!
3. Rennes sur Roulettes
Date or period: In May, during a weekend.
Access: Free
Description: Since 1982, Rennes sur Roulettes hands over the streets to all roller skating enthusiasts for two days. More than 40,000 people come to watch the gliding moments of the 7,000 participants. These lucky ones on wheels enjoy numerous free activities. Rennes sur Roulettes is about conviviality, shows and sports competitions accessible to all levels.
