What to do in Toulon?
1. Fort Saint-Louis
Category: €€/Cultural
Description: This property of the French Navy is the pride of the people of Toulon and is located on the Frédéric-Mistral corniche. Its origin? It's one of the oldest monuments in the city, dating back to the 17th century. It was built at the time in 1692, under the orders of Vauban, military engineer and architect. In addition to being particularly imposing, it is also due to its strategic position that Fort Saint-Louis is so well known throughout France. Indeed, right at the entrance to the harbor, this made it easy to engage the invasion of Toulon as well as Provence, but also to protect the city from attacks by Barbary pirates. Despite heavy damage suffered over the centuries and battles, it was rebuilt. This cannon tower located near the Mourillon beaches, it is now possible to visit it without problem with a guide from 12pm to 3pm every day, except Saturday.
It's an opportunity to learn more about the city's history, its battles, and its cultural heritage, through this building culminating at nearly fifty meters in diameter.
2. The Faron Wild Animal Park

Category: €€/Unusual
Description: Fancy a little unusual activity? Climb up to Mont-Faron and come visit the big cats that live there (we're joking of course). Some of the felines present in these enclosures are endangered. That's why the city of Toulon inaugurated this breeding center to perpetuate the species. The Faron Wild Animal Park is therefore not a conventional zoo as we might see everywhere. The enclosures large enough to contain a whole family of tigers are arranged in a secure way, so that we can best see how the animals live in their environment. The animal caretakers will be delighted to explain the history of these felines (older than we think), their way of life, and their way of hunting, and why it is so important to preserve and protect them from poaching and other hunting activities often aimed at recovering the coat of wild animals to make coats and others. After that, you'll very certainly want to join the cause!
Located on the Faron road and open on Wednesdays, as well as weekends from 10:30 am to 5 pm, the Faron Wild Animal Park will make you discover some of the largest predators the world has ever known.
3. Mont Faron

Description: Fancy some physical activity? After all, Toulon is an excellent place to indulge in walking, cycling, family sports activities. Close to nature, you'll want to bite into life with full teeth! One of the flagship activities that all tourists rush to do when they arrive in the city is to climb and discover Mont Faron? This mythical place, which houses the previously mentioned Wild Animal Park, peaks at 584 meters of white limestone and constitutes the most beautiful harbor in Europe.
It's an unmissable place where you can admire the peaceful fauna and flora in serene calm. For nature lovers, it's a place quite conducive to walks and little runs (trail lovers, we see you). At the top, you can take a good nap lulled by the rustling of trees and the wind breeze, and finally take a delicious well-deserved snack before leaving peacefully. It's a quite easy activity without great difficulties, which is very appreciated by families who see for them the opportunity to get closer and share a moment together. We advise you to test the Toulon cable car, in order to benefit from an absolutely grandiose view of the city and much more!
4. Visit the city and beaches

Description: We know it's a bit cliché, but strolling in Toulon in the neighborhoods with charming little houses is a nice activity. We advise you to take a tour in the Toulon neighborhood "Mourillon" with the look of small villages. Its colorful facades remind of Disney movie houses and its small squares where you can taste a delicious tequila will surely satisfy you! A charming city, take the time to explore its smallest corners and be able to do a few hours of shopping. Prices are known to be quite affordable in this region, so treat yourself and take souvenirs.
Of course, we can't talk to you about Toulon without talking to you about the literally amazing beaches that can be found there, after all, it's also the French Riviera there. For a day, stop at one of the Mourillon beaches. There, spread out your towel and unpack your parasol. Then let yourself be lulled by the foam of calm and warm waves, while being slightly tickled by the small grains of sand clinging to your skin. The key word? We hesitate between tranquility and serenity, what do you think?
5. The Memorial of the Landing in Provence

Category: €€/Cultural
Description: Still on Mont Faron, discover the memorial of the landing and liberation of Provence. This state property echoes the Allied landing that took place on August 15, 1944 and which shook the city, thus leading to its liberation.
Located in Fort Beaumont, and inaugurated nearly 20 years after the events by General de Gaulle, the place will make you travel through another era to make you dive back into the context. What there is to see: representations, photographs, certain uniforms and objects; some models to help you best visualize past events... It's a whole story that comes back to life, through a fresco, or rather a film in the image of the 21st century. Thus, the public can better understand the city's history, its twists and turns, and why it remembers today. Finally, outside the fort, find the plaques of the courageous soldiers who perished at the time. You will also be able to discover the impressive life-size cannons, as well as a tank. Watch out!
