Plaza Santo Domingo is one of Cartagena’s most vibrant spots. Named after the church located on one of its corners, this square is always full of life. Whether it's the buzz of restaurant tables filling the space, the melodies of musicians, or the choreography of dancers performing on the tiled floor, there’s never a dull moment. But don’t worry—once the temporary performances wrap up, the entertainment continues. First, there’s the Santo Domingo Church itself, surrounded by a legend that says its bell tower was shifted to the after God, angry with a local priest, blew on it in frustration. In a much lighter vein, there’s also the statue of “Gorda Gertrudis,” created by Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Local tradition says that those who caress her chest will enjoy a long love story, while those who touch her backside will have better luck. If you take a close look at the colour of these two areas compared to the rest of the statue, it’s clear many visitors have already made their choice. Now, it’s your turn!
