Here we are on beautiful Gråbrødretorv, a colourful square. It was given this name in 1841, yet it is much older than expected. The first buildings here were destroyed during the Copenhagen Fire of 1728, the biggest fire ever registered in the city. So big that over 20% of inhabitants were suddenly homeless. This explains why there are no longer any medieval relics in these Danish streets. The square was then reconstructed, to be finally damaged again by British bombing during the Battle of Copenhagen in 1807. Newly rebuilt, the square will serve as a covered market for over 50 years, then a bunker, and finally, parking spots. In 1968, Gråbrødretorv became a beautiful and peaceful pedestrian area, where students love to come and relax, so why not do the same?
