Cours Foch is the main square in Aubagne, a lively meeting place known for its café terraces and laid-back atmosphere, loved by both locals and visitors. At its heart lies the Charles de Gaulle esplanade, where people often stop to enjoy a drink or sample some local specialties. In the middle of the square stands an elegant war memorial, honouring the soldiers who gave their lives during the First World War. Inaugurated in 1922, it was created by sculptor Henri Reybaud and architect Castel, using Maubec stone and Carrara marble. The monument features a striking statue of winged Victory, holding a laurel wreath and soaring above two soldiers. At the base, an allegorical figure representing the town shows a young child the soldiers who fought for peace, while at her feet, the Gallic rooster sings of victory. It's a beautiful and moving tribute that commemorates the past and adds to the charm of one of the largest and most vibrant squares in Aubagne’s historic center, a place that regularly hosts all kinds of events and celebrations.
