If you are fond of learning more about Lyon’s history you absolutely have to see this fresco, painted in 1995. The 800 m² mural depicts 30 famous figures from Lyon who have left their mark on the city through their deeds or their talent and was designed by the Cité de la Création, a Lyon-based collective that creates murals all over the world. It includes 24 historical figures and 6 contemporary figures: the latter are located at the very bottom, along with the local residents. Some of the best-known are Paul Bocuse, the great chef whose culinary talents are renowned worldwide; or Bernard Pivot, the great journalist who chaired the Goncourt Académy between 2014 and 2019. Further up the fresco, and further back in time, you will find the Lumière brothers projecting the world’s first film, thanks to their revolutionary invention: the cinematograph. On the upper balcony, notice Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in the company of the Little Prince, looking in the direction of Laurent Mourguet, holding the "Guignol" puppet in his left hand. On the fourth floor, you’ll even find the emperor Claudius, who reigned in the 1st century AD. This fresco illustrates over 2,000 years of history : the history of Lyon, capital of the Gauls, city of Lights, capital of gastronomy and city of Art and History! It brightens up the rue de la Martinière and amazes those who come to see it. Through it’s bright colors and its impressive dimensions, its characters come to life on the balconies, and is truly a delight to witness! Don't hesitate to check out the information panel on the left to find out the names of each of the figures illustrated!
