Place Vattalapesca

You’re now standing in Vattalapesca Square, nestled between the citadel and the Old Port. This part of Bastia underwent a major renovation in 2015, when the city set out to breathe new life into the area and turn it into a vibrant place to live and hang out. Just to your right, sloping down toward the port, is the old neighbourhood of U Puntettu. It’s a historic quarter that likely grew up alongside Terra Vecchia, the Old Port, after the Genoese established themselves in the citadel. The name “U Puntettu” means “little bridge,” a nod to the bridge that once crossed the Guadellu River, which now flows underground. On your left, you’ll find the newly renovated Guadellu neighbourhood, named after the same river, just steps from the Quai de la Marine. Today, it’s one of the liveliest corners of the city, often buzzing with events.
