The Jardin du Tripot
The Honfleur audio-guided tour invites you to enter the Jardin du Tripot, a haven of greenery and water in the heart of the city, born of the reconversion of a former industrial site.
From a tannery site to a water garden
Behind its peaceful appearance, the Jardin du Tripot tells an intense industrial history: from the Middle Ages, then especially in the nineteenth century, the site housed tanneries and a large dye works, which used the Claire river to work hides and fabrics. Opened in 2013, the garden made water its star: its ponds and canals partly take up the old dyeing tanks, creating a succession of water mirrors, waterfalls and small bridges. The aquatic vegetation, irises, reeds and water lilies, naturally filters the water and attracts birds and insects, giving life back to this branch of the river long marked by industry. The route, in terraces, is punctuated with sculptures and artistic installations.
What there is to see
The Jardin du Tripot offers a refreshing walk along the water, between ponds, waterfalls and small bridges, in a green setting. Sculptures and installations, like a giant mosaic snail or a family of metal ducks, punctuate the route with humour. It is at once an ecological interlude and a nod to the laborious history of Honfleur, a stone's throw from the lively port.
