You're now walking up the Via di Ripetta, a historic street of ancient Rome, dating back to the 1st century BC. Today, it's an integral part of the so-called Tridente of Campo Marzio, that is, three straight roads in the shape of a trident, leading to the Piazza del Popolo. It is considered one of the greatest achievements of the 16th century. Via di Ripetta took its present name in 1704, when the small port of Ripetta was built. Why small you might ask? Well, because there's the much bigger Porto di Ripa Grande in the Trastevere district.
