Casa Modeon invites you on a genuine journey through time. Built in 1896, at the height of the Belle Époque, this elegant residence in Mérida’s historic center reflects the city’s cultural and artistic golden age. Carefully restored, it now houses a unique private museum in Latin America, dedicated to the earliest inventions that made it possible to listen to music at home. Inside, more than two hundred period instruments, from gramophones and phonographs to music boxes and other sound mechanisms, trace over a century of innovation from the 1820s to the 1930s, many of which still work and can be heard today. The visit unfolds through a series of themed rooms, brought to life by immersive experiences combining video mapping, virtual reality and staging inspired by the Roaring Twenties. Casa Modeon is also a vibrant cultural venue, hosting concerts, costume events, a café and artistic gatherings in an atmosphere that is both playful and refined. True to its humanistic spirit, admission is free and donations are given to charitable causes, making this house-museum a place where heritage, music and conviviality come together in the heart of Mérida.
