Riyam Park

Welcome to Riyam Park, a public park set on a hillside above the Muttrah corniche, between Muscat and the old harbour, a privileged location that makes it one of the finest viewpoints in the Omani capital. From the park’s paths, the view opens out over the Gulf of Oman, the busy port of Muttrah with its traditional dhows, the corniche lined with historic buildings and, in the distance, the rugged ridges of the Hajar Mountains. This place also carries strong historical meaning: it was here, in 1648, that a peace treaty was signed with the Portuguese, marking a key moment in Oman’s history and symbolising the return of Omani control over its coastline. Today, Riyam Park is above all a place to slow down and relax, much loved by locals and visitors alike, with its carefully maintained gardens, green lawns, walking paths and plenty of shaded benches perfect for a break. The park is also the starting point of a short hike marked by sign C38, leading up to an even higher viewpoint above Muttrah, famous for offering one of the most beautiful panoramas in the area, especially at sunset, a stop well worth adding to your itinerary if it’s not already there.
