Portugal dos Pequenitos, meaning “Portugal for the little ones”, was designed for children. It’s the country’s oldest theme park, located just to your left. Created in 1940 by Fernando Bissaya Barreto, a professor and close friend of former Portuguese Prime Minister Salazar, this “toy-sized” museum celebrates Portuguese history and traditions, in a rather unique way. Here, you can follow the routes of Portugal’s great explorers across the seas, wander among miniature versions of the country’s most iconic monuments, and discover traditional houses, costumes, and architecture from every region of Portugal… and from other Portuguese-speaking nations around the world. So far, nothing out of the ordinary… except for one twist: the entire experience takes place in a miniature world! Adults often find themselves just as enchanted as children, playing the part of a modern-day Gulliver in a tiny, carefully crafted world. It’s a playful way to connect with Portugal’s cultural heritage, and the perfect time to let your inner child out!
