This square is undoubtedly one of Edinburgh’s most iconic, located at the end of one of the city’s prime shopping streets, George Street. Like much of the New Town, it was designed by architect James Craig, who also oversaw the creation of the entire district. Completed in 1820, the square was built to attract the city’s wealthiest residents to its elegant Georgian houses, which encircle a small circular garden adorned with an equestrian statue of Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. A refined and stylish square that forms the perfect finale to one of Edinburgh’s most luxurious streets!
