From Calle Armiñán, the Lara Museum welcomes you into an eighteenth-century palace, the Casa-Palacio de los Condes de la Conquista, a historic setting that now hosts one of Andalusia’s most surprising private museums. Created by Juan Antonio Lara Jurado, a passionate collector who devoted his life to gathering unusual objects, the museum brings together more than two thousand pieces ranging from antique clocks and historical weapons to scientific instruments, early cameras, typewriters and period jewellery. As you wander through the rooms, you move through a cabinet of curiosities where every item tells its own little story of craft, art or everyday life. Downstairs, a darker section is dedicated to witchcraft and the Inquisition, with torture instruments, esoteric artefacts and historical recreations that evoke some of the more troubling episodes of medieval Spain. With its eclectic collections, the freedom to take photos and the charm of the palace that houses it, the Lara Museum offers an unusual and engaging visit just steps from the Puente Nuevo and the Palacio de Congresos.
