Looks like it’s “ships ahoy” now, sailors! The impressive vessel on the western shore of Skeppsholmen is the Af Chapman, a majestic square-rigged sailing ship with a steel hull, built in 1887. It was originally owned by an Irishman and sailed to the United States, Australia, and England before being taken over by the Swedish navy in 1923. Its name honours a Swedish vice admiral. The Af Chapman served as a naval training ship until 1934, then turned into a museum in 1947, before finally becoming a 285-bed hostel in 1949. We don’t know about you, but that sounds like exactly the kind of unique and unusual experience we love!
