Take a look to your right. It may not look like it at first, but Im Schmiedenhof is actually a covered passage leading to a small shopping courtyard, so feel free to step inside and take a look. The name literally means “in the smiths’ courtyard,” recalling the craftsmen who once worked in this area during the Middle Ages. Today, it’s a group of historic buildings arranged around an inner courtyard, with shops, cafés and a few specialty stores. The place is appreciated for its calmer atmosphere compared to the larger shopping streets nearby, and for its architecture that blends historic façades with more modern design. It’s mainly a discreet passage that people use while moving through the city center, but it’s also a pleasant spot to pause for a moment or discover a few local businesses away from the bustle.
