1. Pad Thai

Here's the country's emblematic dish. Pad Thai. It's a traditional dish made with stir-fried noodles that has the particularity of being sweet, salty, and spicy all at once. We mix everything together, and it creates an explosion of flavors! Many people love to enjoy it with shrimp, as they pair very well with the famous noodles, but if you wish, you can add chicken or beef meat. It's a meal highly appreciated by Bangkok residents, whether young or old, but also by tourists who tend to jump on it as soon as they arrive!

2. Tom Kha

Here's a dish you may have never heard of. It's actually a coconut milk soup, in which galangal roots are simmered (these grow a lot in Bangkok), lemongrass to give a tempting aromatic smell, kaffir and kaffir lime leaves, as well as a touch of cilantro to enhance the taste. Know that Thai soups have nothing to do with soups from other countries. They contain many ingredients specific to the country, which gives them a unique flavor. In Tom Kha, you can add pieces of chicken, or seafood or tofu.

3. Massaman Curry

Do you like curry? Perfect, because Thais do too! There are several varieties of curry, but Massaman is among the mildest that can exist. What does it contain? Most often, it's made with beef, potatoes, peanuts (yes, apparently the taste would be better with them), onions, and sometimes mixed with a little fish. Everything is simmered for a long time so that the curry can properly infuse all the ingredients. A delight dear friends!

4. Khao Phat

khao phat

Here's another very popular dish that you'll find in absolutely all restaurants or small street stalls in Bangkok. This rice, fried with Thai jasmine, is actually originally from China, but quickly won the hearts and stomachs of neighboring countries, including Thailand. It's an extremely simple and quick dish to make, it's usually accompanied by a little meat and fish. The city's residents love above all to add lemon juice to enhance the taste!

5. Tub Tim Krob

The red ruby dessert catches the eye, doesn't it? You'd almost think it contains real ruby pearls! It's a particularly refreshing treat that's enjoyed after a hot dish or soup. Made from chestnuts and coconut cream and coated in delicious tapioca flour, this dessert has the particularity of being both soft and crunchy. Enough to delight your taste buds and touch every corner of your stomach with the greatest delicacy. A real gem!

6. Phat Krapao

phat krapao

Phat Krapao consists of three flagship ingredients of Thai cuisine: Thai basil whose intoxicating spicy flavors are radically opposed to the basil we all know; chili; and soy sauce which gives a nice texture to the dish. Highly appreciated, this dish is usually enjoyed with a bowl of rice, but the most gourmands know perfectly well that adding a fried egg is the basis!

7. Som Tam

We thought it lacked a bit of salad, which is why we're offering you Som Tam, a little crunchy wonder! Very spicy, it's a dish in which several kinds of vegetables have been added, particularly finely chopped pieces of green papaya, as well as tomatoes. Vendors usually offer two versions: one containing only vegetables, and another with dried shrimp. All mixed with a touch of lemon. In the mouth, this gives an explosion of flavors!

8. Khao Niao Tu-rean

What we nickname sticky rice with durian is more a sweet treat than a dish itself. If you like durian, or if you've always wanted to taste it, then we highly recommend trying it in this form: with steamed sticky rice, in which a golden treasure (durian) has been placed inside, with some green beans, all drizzled with coconut milk. All the ingredients pair very well together, and leave a pleasant memory in our minds.

9. Thai Oliang

Have you ever once in your life drunk iced coffee? Not the one they can sell you in supermarkets, but real iced coffee that has just been freshly prepared. No? Well, in Bangkok, it's time to test the legendary Oliang! Interesting fact: "O" means black and "liang" means cold: it's made exclusively from corn, rice, and soy beans. It's a pleasant drink to which each vendor adds their personal touch: sometimes black coffee or sugar or a bit of ice.
