Gradska Ulica

You’re now in Gradska Ulica, the main street of Trogir. At first it might look like just a charming cobbled lane lined with palaces and shops, but its story runs deep—it follows the exact path of the Roman decumanus maximus, one of the two main arteries of the ancient city. Think about it: people have been walking this same route for more than 2,300 years, since Greek and Roman times. Along the way you’ll see several aristocratic palaces. Right across from the cathedral is the Ćipiko Palace, home to one of Trogir’s most powerful families. A little further stands the Garagnin-Fanfogna Palace, now the city museum, where ancient and medieval treasures are on display. Other grand residences, like those of the Cega, Vitturi, and Lucić families, recall the wealth and influence of the town’s nobility. Keep going and you’ll step into a small, hidden square tucked between façades, one of those magical corners where time feels suspended, perfect for spotting architectural details and soaking up the intimate atmosphere of the old town. Today, Gradska Ulica is still full of life, with visitors browsing art galleries, cafés, and shops, yet it remains the backbone of Trogir—a thread weaving together antiquity and the present day.
