Klausen Synagogue

Despite being closely located to the Old Jewish Cemetery, this monument is more than just a haunted house. This is the only Baroque-era synagogue still preserved in Prague, named after three small structures that once stood here, the "Klausen". The first one was a higher education school dedicated to studying the Talmud, the fundamental text of Judaism. The second served as a prayer hall, while the third was used for bathing and caring for the sick. All three were destroyed in the great fire of 1689, so the Klausen Synagogue replaced them, quickly becoming an important place of worship and the second main synagogue in the Jewish Quarter. Today managed by the Jewish Museum of Prague, the synagogue hosts an exhibition about the Jewish community’s key events, daily life, and major celebrations.
