A complex born in 1338

The history begins in 1338, when the municipal councillors acquire a Gothic house on the square, recognisable by its pink façade and its stone mouldings. What was at first only one property became a powerful administrative complex, as the influence of the town hall grew. By enlarging it westwards, a seventy-metre tower was added in 1364, then several medieval houses between the fifteenth and the nineteenth century.

The old town hall is above all famous for its astronomical clock, attached to its façade, and for its seventy-metre tower, which offers a magnificent view over the Old Town Square and the roofs of Prague. Inside, you discover the former ceremonial rooms and the Gothic chapel. It is a major witness to the municipal history of the city.
