Félix Faure was a significant French statesman. Born in Paris in 1841, he also passed away there in 1899. He was elected President on January 17th, 1895, after a coalition of moderates came together upon Jean Casimir-Périer’s resignation. Nicknamed the “Sun President,” he was one of the French Third Republic’s most prominent figures. Both Félix Faure’s life and unusual death left a mark on the country. His passing at 58 is often called a “happy death”... Quite the oxymoron. But according to several people who knew him well, he allegedly passed away while in the company of one of his mistresses, 29-year-old Marguerite Steinheil, a French hostess and socialite. However, many historians dismiss this as too sensationalist and claim that Félix Faure died of a stroke in his office, and he’s the only French President to have died at the Élysée Palace.
