Welcome to Little Venice, one of Colmar's most picturesque neighborhoods! As you stroll along the canals, you'll discover traditional Alsatian houses, their half-timbered facades painted in the colors of the region. Makes you feel like you're in Venice, doesn't it? This charming, romantic district is nestled along the banks of the Lauch River that flows north of Colmar. A boat trip is the perfect way to appreciate its natural beauty! The Krutenau district, as it's formally known, came into being in the Middle Ages on what used to be a marshland. At the time, it was home to winemakers, market-gardeners and boatmen, who made a living from their trades, navigating the river that runs through the town by boat. The beautiful houses lining the banks of the Lauch were built between the 14th and 18th centuries, and are a perfect example of the half-timbered houses found throughout Alsace. Little Venice is a must-see when visiting Colmar, promising to charm all visitors!
