You’ve arrived at the tip of the island! Curving gracefully around the end of the island, this elegant neo-Baroque building is the Bode Museum. Inaugurated in 1904, it reopened in 2006 after a long restoration. Named after the former director of the Royal Museums at the time, it welcomes one of the world’s most important collections of ancient sculpture, an extraordinary collection of Byzantine art, and a coin cabinet containing over 500,000 pieces. For those who enjoy picking up new words, know that the study of coins and medals is called numismatics, and collectors, academics, and enthusiasts in this field are called numismatists. There you go, a fun fact of the highest importance! Now, let’s cross Monbijou Bridge to the opposite bank and continue our tour.
