As you may already know, Puebla is considered the culinary capital of Mexico, especially when it comes to sweets, which are beloved by locals and visitors alike. The city has been known for its confections since colonial times, and there are plenty of places to prove it. Take the Casa del Alfeñique, for example, its ornate, sugar-like facade was inspired by traditional alfeñique candies made from molded sugar paste. And right now, you’re standing on Calle de los Dulces, literally, “Sweet Street.” This charming road is lined with candy shops, including Puebla’s very first confectionery, La Gran Fama, which opened in 1892 and was an instant success. Its popularity inspired many other candy stores to set up shop along the same street. So go ahead, step inside one of these local institutions, sample the treats Puebla is famous for, and stock up on delicious souvenirs for the rest of your Mexican adventure!
