On your left stands the Palacio de Congresos de Ronda, a building that brings together more than five centuries of history on the very edge of the El Tajo gorge near the Puente Nuevo. Originally the Convent of Santo Domingo, it was founded in the late fifteenth century by the Catholic Monarchs after the conquest of the city and long served as the seat of the Inquisition Tribunal, making it a major religious and judicial centre. After the Dominicans left in the nineteenth century, the site became a market hall and later a carpentry workshop before falling into disuse, until the municipality restored it at the end of the twentieth century. Inside, you can still see the church with its remarkable polychrome Mudéjar ceiling and a cloister now used for exhibitions and events. Since 2005, the building has hosted conferences and cultural activities, using its historical heritage to facilitate contemporary life.
