The last bridge between Manhattan and Brooklyn

The Manhattan Bridge is the last of the three bridges built between Manhattan and Brooklyn, after the Brooklyn Bridge and the Williamsburg Bridge, already in service. Inaugurated in 1912 after about ten years of work, delayed by a fire that occurred in 1909, it was first to be called simply Bridge Number 3, before receiving its present, far more prestigious name. More than two kilometres long, it is recognised by its hue turning to blue.

Laid out on the bank of the East River, John Street Park offers a peaceful setting to admire the Manhattan Bridge in all its length, with the Manhattan skyline in the background. It is a quieter and less busy viewpoint than those of Washington Street, ideal for enjoying the panorama and the light on the water, away from the crowd.
