Located in the Loire estuary, facing Nantes, on the left bank of the Loire, this small typical fishing village of Loire-Atlantique is only 5 minutes away by ferry and is really worth the trip: its history, authenticity, colorful houses...

There's a bohemian atmosphere far from the noise of the city in a completely exotic setting. Bourgeois homes stand alongside fishermen's houses, palm trees and other exotic plants brought back by sailors from their journeys suddenly appear around the corner of an alley.

Finally, many artists have left their mark in this village: architecture, paintings, mosaics... Historian André Péron. Films have also been shot in Trentemoult including La Reine Blanche, a film with Catherine Deneuve. Bar, restaurants, organic market, let yourself be surprised by the colorful and friendly atmosphere of Trentemoult.

How to get to Trentemoult from Nantes?

South of Nantes, the "Gare Maritime" stop on tram line 1 will take you to the Navibus, a nautical bus located at quai Ernest Renaud in Nantes that will take you to the village of Trentemoult after 7 minutes of navigation.

You will be able to see throughout your maritime journey: the Hangar à Bananes, the Buren rings, the Titan cranes emblematic of île de Nantes, and the great Carrousel des Mondes Marins. A very pleasant moment in prospect!

Take time to stroll through the streets of Trentemoult, you will discover houses in bright colors: pink, yellow, red, blue... (This custom comes from fishermen who painted their houses with what was left of the paint used to maintain the hull of their boat).

But also, trompe-l'oeil, little humorous notes on the walls... Looking up, you will sometimes see hooks and pulleys that were used to lift furniture upstairs in case of flooding.

The bourgeois residences, a sign of wealth of long-distance captains and cape-horners, were built after 1850. It is in these houses that you will see palm trees and other exotic plants brought back by their owners. According to legend, only captains capable of crossing Cape Horn had the right to plant a palm tree on their property.

"La Reine blanche" with Catherine Deneuve in 1990, director Jean-Loup Hubert was from the region.

"La Demoiselle d'honneur" by Claude Chabrol in 2005.

Many artists have since settled in the village of Trentemoult, they welcome you to their galleries. There are about twenty in this former fishing village.

Regional specialties

The specialties of Loire-Atlantique are well represented in the bars and restaurants of quai Marcel Boissard, which will offer you local fish and seafood accompanied by a glass of local wine while contemplating the Loire riverbank. You will always find something to snack on along the quay.
