The work of Hector Guimard

Born in Lyon, Hector Guimard became the leading representative of French Art Nouveau. He was commissioned to create the very first entrances of the new Paris metro at its inauguration in 1900. Finding one of his works on the other side of the Atlantic is exceptional: Montreal is one of the few cities in the world, apart from Paris, to have such an entrance, given by the RATP.

What there is to see

The green cast-iron surround, with its plant-like curves so characteristic of Art Nouveau, marks the access to the Square-Victoria metro station.
