Perched on the tenth floor of New World City just steps from People’s Square, Madame Tussauds Shanghai is far more than a wax museum—it’s a full stage of world-famous personalities. Opened in 2006 as the first Madame Tussauds in mainland China, it spans more than nine thousand square metres and features over a hundred hyper-realistic figures of stars from film, music, sport and politics. From the moment you step inside, you enter a glamorous world where you can pose on the red carpet with Audrey Hepburn, share a smile with Marilyn Monroe or find Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan in iconic movie scenes, while Michael Jackson, Madonna and Taylor Swift shine in the Music Dream Factory, where you can even record yourself like a real performer. Sports legends have their own Hall of Fame with Yao Ming, David Beckham and Kobe Bryant, and the Marvel zone lets you virtually suit up as a superhero. A large section is dedicated to Asian culture too, featuring K-pop idols like Lee Min-ho, actors Hu Ge and Yang Yang, and singers G.E.M. and Teresa Teng, true icons of Chinese music. Each figure takes months of meticulous work—sometimes up to half a year—and the whole experience is fully interactive, letting you get close to the statues, take photos, step into immersive scenes and discover the craft behind their creation. Showcasing an array of Western and Chinese celebrities, Madame Tussauds Shanghai captures the city’s cosmopolitan, creative spirit, offering a playful and surprising visit where the line between illusion and reality almost disappears.
