Viewpoint from the City Walls
A city’s ramparts always offer breathtaking views, there’s just something about the height that works its magic. We’ve taken you up Cartagena’s thick city walls to take in the view from the best viewpoint. To find the perfect spot, position yourself to the right of the bastion and turn your body to face the view you want. Here’s our suggestion: stand with your back to the Caribbean Sea and look from left to right for a stunning panorama of the 16th-century fortifications that encircle the old town. Straight ahead, you’ll be charmed by the pastel and bright colours covering the façades, with the bell tower of Santa Catalina Cathedral rising at the center. You don’t need a rainbow to brighten your day, this burst of colour is the city’s signature charm! Turning slightly to your left, you might spot a few cannons peeking out, but they’re nothing compared to the skyscrapers marking the horizon. That modern skyline, contrasting with the historic centre where you stand, belongs to the upscale Boca Grande neighborhood, known for its popular long beaches.
