Kamppi Chapel

This striking building on Narinkkatori Square is the Kamppi Chapel—a true architectural gem and one of Helsinki’s most unique landmarks. Built in 2012 as part of the World Design Capital project, the chapel symbolises Helsinki’s commitment to design as a tool for social, economic, and environmental wellbeing. That year, Helsinki held the title, and this one-of-a-kind structure was created in the heart of the city. Nicknamed the Chapel of Silence, the oval structure offers a space for quiet reflection for visitors, open to all faiths. It’s a rare pocket of calm in the middle of the bustling city. Built entirely of wood, the chapel stands 11.5 metres high, and brings a modern touch to the square, standing in stark contrast to the surrounding buildings.
