Calling all foodies and history buffs! Albi's covered market is nothing but ordinary. This spot has been buzzing with activity since the Middle Ages.

Then, in 1860, it was chosen as the prime location for the future covered food market. Fast forward to 1902, and architect Thierry Bourdois and engineer André Michelin (yes, the guy who created the world-famous tyre company of the same name!) were hired to see the project through. They went all out with the design, building a series of triangular halls inspired, among other things, by the “Pavillon Baltard” auditorium in Paris.

After 3 years of construction, the brand-new covered food market finally opened its doors. Today, it’s a listed historical monument and a go-to spot for producers and shoppers alike. It's open in the morning, Tuesday to Friday, and it's the best place in town if you’re looking to stock your pantry.

Pro tip: don't miss the local specialties! Grab some "Jeannots", those delicious anise-flavored cookies from Albi, or try the "Bougnette", a savory stuffing made with bread, pork, and eggs. You'll thank us later!
