Advice

Let's take a little break from your tour to tell you about other points of interest that couldn't be included in this itinerary. We've talked about the fabulous Aiguille du Midi and the legendary experience of discovering the Mer de Glace, but there are many other incredible activities to enjoy in Chamonix. If you've come in summer, you'll have a field day with the hiking trails! The most famous one will take you to the spectacular Lac Blanc, a true jewel of the surrounding mountain range. You can also reach the Lac Bleu from the first section of the Aiguille du Midi, or admire the Bossons Glacier from the Glacier’s Chalet. Also, take the Brévent cable car and walk the few kilometers to the lake of the same name. For a short stroll without leaving the center, take a walk around little Gaillands Lake and admire how the crystal-clear water reflects the surrounding mountains! The possibilities are endless, so don't hesitate to visit the Tourist Office or the Maison de la Montagne for expert advice on which routes to take! In winter, strap on your snowshoes or cross-country skis and head out to enjoy the intoxicating silence of the forest trails! The call of the peaks also awakens adrenaline cravings in some people! Chamonix is the perfect place to satisfy them! You can fly over the town between the peaks on a paragliding experience, or speed down forest trails on an electric mountain bike, or try rock climbing on the famous Gaillands rock. In winter, you can even try ice climbing, ski or snowboard down the slopes of Brévent or Argentière, and why not tackle France's longest off-piste run through the stunning Vallée Blanche. And for the most experienced among you, maybe this is your chance to climb the famous Mont Blanc or take part in a mountaineering course on the surrounding peaks. More of a culture buff ? No problem – Chamonix has something for everyone. You can start by visiting the Alpine Museum where you'll discover the town's entire history. The mountains are full of treasures you can't even imagine! Go unlock this mystery by visiting the small but fascinating Crystal Museum, located just behind the church square. To unwind after a day in the fresh air, you can go to the sports center and enjoy the pools, jacuzzis, sauna, and hammam, or head to the ice rink or bowling alley. And for a more luxurious moment of relaxation, head to the magnificent QC Termes spa in Chamonix! If you’ve got a bit more time to spend in the valley and feel like a change of scenery, you’ve got plenty of great options nearby! Just a short trip away, you can visit the charming spa town of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, known for its beautiful Art Nouveau buildings and relaxing thermal baths. Still close to Chamonix, you’ll also find Lake Passy—about a 30-minute drive—where you can walk around the lake or go for a swim in summer. If you love forest walks, don’t miss Green Lake at Plaine-Joux. It’s a peaceful trail through the woods with a lovely reward at the end. And if you’re up for a bit more driving, Annecy is absolutely worth the trip. Often called the “Venice of the Alps,” it’s famous for its colorful medieval streets, canals, and stunning glacial lake—a perfect place for a relaxed day out. Looking for even more spectacular nature? Head to Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Surrounded by towering cliffs and waterfalls, this natural amphitheater is amongst the most breathtaking sites in the region. Well, with all this, you've got plenty of things to do, if you feel like staying in the area for a while.
