Here’s a short break in your visit to introduce some of the many other places worth discovering around Collioure—each offering its own mix of nature, heritage, and authentic Catalan charm. You could start with Fort Saint-Elme, the impressive 16th-century fortress reachable on foot or by car. From its ramparts, the view over the Côte Vermeille is breathtaking, and inside you’ll find suits of armor, old weapons, and fascinating insights into the region’s military past.
Continuing south along the coastal road brings you to Port-Vendres, a working harbor that’s both commercial and picturesque, famous for its obelisk dedicated to Louis XVI, its lively waterfront, and the nearby heights of Fort Béar and Cap Béar, where the panorama stretches across the whole Gulf of Lion. A bit farther on lies Banyuls-sur-Mer, wilder and more rugged, with rocky coves, a scenic coastal path, and the Biodiversarium—a scientific center devoted to local marine life. It’s also the birthplace of sculptor Aristide Maillol, whose house and garden workshop can be visited.
Inland, the town of Céret enchants visitors with its Museum of Modern Art, its medieval bridges, and its bohemian Saturday market full of color and life. To the north, around Argelès-sur-Mer, you can explore the Tower of la Massane, the Château de Valmy and its gardens, or the long pebble beach stretching toward the horizon. For those who love the outdoors, the coastal trail between Collioure and Argelès winds through pine groves and hidden coves, offering stunning views at every turn.
Don’t miss Paulilles either—once a dynamite factory, it’s now an eco-museum and landscaped park tucked between Port-Vendres and Banyuls, where industrial history meets untouched nature and a quiet beach. And if you feel like venturing a little farther, Perpignan, the historic capital of Roussillon, is only about thirty kilometers away. There you can visit the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, the Castillet, the colorful Saint-Jacques district, and the Gothic cathedral.
A lively, multicultural city, it hosts festivals, markets, and concerts all year round—a perfect blend of Mediterranean warmth and Pyrenean character. With so much to see and do, you’ll find plenty of reasons to linger and explore this beautiful region even longer.
