Advice
We'd like to take a moment to briefly introduce you to other points of interest that we weren't able to squeeze into our itinerary. To round off your visit to Dole, I suggest a walk on the other side of the Poets' Footbridge, where you'll discover the impressive remains of a Romanesque bridge. Dating back to the 13th century, it once boasted 17 arches that allowed you to cross the Doubs.
Just a few meters away, you'll also see the Commanderie, a spectacular auditorium whose modern architecture is sure to stun you. For those wishing to escape to nature, there's nothing better than a stroll through one of France's largest forests! The Chaux Forest offers a wide range of hiking trails for all skill levels to discover the region's natural beauty.
The Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans and the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains near Dole are also worth a visit. Both are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. For those who wish to go further afield, there are many towns and villages to visit in the area.
Besançon and Dijon are a 50-minute drive away. The villages of Pesmes and Château-Chalon are listed among France's Most Beautiful Villages, and Nuits-Saint-Georges and Arbois are also well worth a visit! Well, with all this, you've got plenty of things to do, if you feel like staying in the area for a while.
