Let’s take a quick break to mention some other spots that didn’t make it into the main itinerary but are well worth checking out. First off, don’t miss the Villa Noailles. Its bold, modernist design has earned it international acclaim.
Built in the 1920s for Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, a wealthy Parisian couple and major patrons of the arts, the villa now hosts exhibitions and events focused on design, fashion, photography, and architecture. What’s more, the area around Hyères is packed with hiking trails, beaches, and islands, each more stunning than the last. Be sure to visit the Salins des Pesquiers, a birdwatcher’s paradise with striking, wide-open landscapes.
Just south of the salt marshes is the Giens Peninsula, where a gorgeous coastal path offers up some breathtaking views and untouched natural scenery. You’ll also find some of Hyères’ largest beaches there. To round off your stay, hop on a boat and explore the nearby islands.
Porquerolles is the best known, while Port-Cros is wilder and perfect for hiking. If you’re looking for a naturist-friendly destination, the beautiful Île du Levant is the place to go. If you’re a history buff, make sure to visit the Olbia archaeological site, where you can wander through some impressive ancient ruins.
Less than 30 minutes away by car is Toulon, often called the “Old Military Town”. It’s great for a day trip, with its port, beaches, and the panoramic views from Mont Faron. Head the other way along the coast and you’ll reach the charming village of Bormes-les-Mimosas.
Perched 154 metres above sea level, it’s a gem of the region, full of flower-filled medieval alleys and sweeping views over the Var. Just north of Hyères is the Borrels Valley, a protected natural area perfect for scenic walks through the Maures mountains. You’ll find forest trails, vineyards, and local wine estates where you can stop in for a tasting.
If you're staying a bit longer, why not explore the Gulf of Saint-Tropez? It's famous for its beaches and lively seaside towns of Ramatuelle, Sainte-Maxime, Grimaud and its marina, and Saint-Tropez itself. Gassin is another highlight, officially listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”.
If you’re in the mood for a detour inland, the Var is dotted with hilltop villages full of character. Think Le Castellet, Forcalqueiret and its castle, Collobrières, La Cadière-d’Azur, Évenos, or Le Revest-les-Eaux. So there you have it, plenty of ideas if you feel like staying for longer!
