Let’s take a short break from our tour so I can tell you about a few other places worth exploring that didn’t make it into our main route. Just a few kilometers away, Étaples-sur-Mer offers a striking contrast to the resort atmosphere of Le Touquet. This authentic fishing port is home to the Maritime Museum and the Étaples Military Cemetery, one of the largest from the First World War. To the north, the villages of the Canche Bay, Trépied and Stella-Plage, offer wild beaches, pine forests, and peaceful walks, perfect for nature lovers. History buffs shouldn’t miss Montreuil-sur-Mer, about 30 minutes from Le Touquet. This fortified hilltop town inspired Victor Hugo when he wrote Les Misérables. You can stroll along its ramparts, explore the citadel, and wander its cobblestone streets. Further south, the Deux-Caps area, Cap Gris-Nez and Cap Blanc-Nez, boasts some of the most breathtaking coastal views in the region. On a clear day, you can even see the English coastline. Closer to home, the Canche Bay Nature Reserve, just minutes from the town center, is the perfect spot to observe birds, seals, and the unique dune flora. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Musée du Touquet, housed in an elegant 1920s villa, with a fine collection of modern and contemporary works. And for a taste of local life, don’t miss the region’s markets in Étaples, Montreuil, and Berck, where you’ll find fresh fish, regional cheeses, honey, and homemade jams. For lovers of wide, unspoiled landscapes, the Authie Bay between Berck and Fort-Mahon is a real gem, a patchwork of dunes, marshes, and sandbanks where seals can often be spotted at low tide. It’s a wild, protected setting, ideal for a long walk or a quiet nature break. With all that in mind, you’ll have plenty to keep you busy if you decide to stay in the area a little longer.
