Let’s take a quick moment during your visit to mention a few other highlights that didn’t make it into the main itinerary. Charles Trenet, one of France’s most beloved singer-songwriters of the 20th century, was born right here in Narbonne. Known for his poetic lyrics and joyful melodies, he helped shape French popular music with hits like La Mer.

His childhood home has been turned into a small museum, where visitors can explore his life, his music, and the creative spirit that made him a national icon. If you're looking to enjoy some sun and sea during your stay, head just 15 kilometers out to Narbonne-Plage—a wide, sandy beach that serves as a full-fledged seaside resort. For a more scenic adventure, make your way to Gruissan, a charming fishing village surrounded by nature.

To get there, you’ll pass through the La Clape Massif, a beautiful natural area filled with hiking trails winding through vineyards. It’s home to several well-known wine estates and breathtaking landscapes. La Clape is actually part of the Narbonnaise Natural Regional Park—a paradise for walking, biking, or even horseback riding between beaches, lagoons, vineyards, and the foothills of the Corbières mountains.

While exploring the region, don’t miss picturesque villages like Bages, Peyriac-de-Mer, Leucate, Sigean, and Portel-des-Corbières. For more seaside fun, head to the resort town of Port-La-Nouvelle. One of the area’s top attractions is the Sigean African Reserve, a massive wildlife park home to over 160 animal species—perfect for a family outing.

A little further inland, you’ll find the magnificent Fontfroide Abbey, a beautifully preserved Cistercian monastery from the 12th century, nestled in unspoiled natural surroundings. Wine lovers will find plenty to enjoy too—this is prime Languedoc wine country, with plenty of estates offering tastings and tours. If you're staying a bit longer, consider a visit to Béziers, just 40 minutes away by car.

Its historic center is well worth exploring. Or make the short trip to the stunning medieval city of Carcassonne, about 50 minutes from Narbonne, with its remarkably preserved citadel. Finally, the city of Perpignan is also within easy reach, showcasing striking southern architecture, with many buildings listed as Historic Monuments.
