Advice

Let’s take a quick break in your tour to highlight a few other gems that didn’t make it into the main itinerary. Here in Saint-Nazaire, maritime and industrial heritage blends seamlessly with nature and history. Start your journey at the Airbus Atlantic factory, where legendary aircraft like the A380 take shape. From the skies, move on to the wind at the EOL Offshore Wind Visitor Centre, an interactive and fun way to explore renewable energy. Head out to sea and you’ll find France’s very first offshore wind farm, an impressive row of 80 turbines rising above the waves. Back on land, make sure to visit the Saint-Nazaire market halls, lively several times a week, or the smaller but just as authentic Penhoët halls. If history is your thing, the Écomusée brings the city’s story to life, from a modest fishing village to a major industrial hub. Of course, Saint-Nazaire also means beaches. The famous Monsieur Hulot beach, made legendary by Jacques Tati’s film, is a must-see, while the quieter Trébezy beach offers peace and relaxation. Along the coast, the traditional fishing huts on stilts known as pêcheries are a charming reminder of the locals’ close connection to the sea. For a real change of scenery, head just fifteen minutes away to the Brière Regional Natural Park. Spreading over 50,000 hectares of marshland, it’s perfect to explore by flat-bottomed boat, on foot or by bike. From the Rozé viewpoint you’ll get sweeping views of the wetlands, and the village of Kerhinet, with its restored thatched cottages, takes you back in time. To finish, the ruined Ranrouët Castle in Herbignac tells centuries of medieval history in the open air. In Saint-Nazaire, every step is a discovery, where industry, memory, sea and marshes all come together. Well, with all this, you've got plenty of things to do, if you feel like staying in the area for a while.
