Alexandre I Garden

Once known as the “Jardin du Roy,” this small one-hectare park has long been a favourite spot for Toulon locals looking to relax. It was managed by the French Navy in the 18th century, which created a botanical garden using plants brought back by sailors from voyages around the world. The city took over in the 19th century and turned it into a promenade for the local high society, just steps from the town centre. Some of the trees date back to that original botanical garden. One standout is the Louisiana cypress, believed to have been planted in 1797! Today, the park is a peaceful haven, perfect for a stroll among the trees, a pause by the bandstand or the fish pond, or a relaxed break at the children’s playground. It’s the perfect spot for an easygoing afternoon with friends or family.
