Allier Lake

You’re probably thinking, 'Great, yet another body of water in Vichy'. It's starting to feel like we're never going to see dry land again! But hey, we're knee-deep in water talk now, so we might as well go with it and check out the lake too. This relatively large body of water was created as part of an ambitious plan in the 1960s to promote water sports. One successful project led to another, and the spa town went on to redevelop the right side of the lake to transform it into a recreational area for locals and tourists alike. In recent years, the lake's shores have undergone a remarkable makeover. In 2014, noisy roads and deserted shores gave way to waterfront pathways with great views, charming cafés and taverns, and all sorts of water sport activities on offer. Over time, the Allier Lake has thus become a go-to spot and a must-see. And the story isn't over yet: the projects announced for 2018 for the left lakeside promise even more to come.
