Blois, capital under Louis XII

Capital of the kingdom under Louis XII, from the fifteenth to the sixteenth century, Blois saw the flourishing of many private mansions intended to house those close to the king. The Hôtel d'Alluye, a vast residence thirty metres on each side, is a fine example. Sold and bought back over the centuries, listed as a historic monument since 1929, it was finally divided into about ten luxury apartments from 2007, while keeping its Renaissance architecture.

The Hôtel d'Alluye is distinguished by its façade and above all by its inner courtyard, adorned with an Italian-style gallery, a testimony to the influence of the Renaissance imported from Italy. Its sculptures, its arcades and its medallions illustrate the refinement of the civil architecture of the early sixteenth century. It is a choice stop for lovers of Renaissance heritage in Blois.

Practical information

The Hôtel d'Alluye is in the historic centre of Blois. The façade can be contemplated freely from the street; the building, largely private and divided into apartments, cannot be freely visited. It is a stop to admire from the outside, along the walk.
