Bartholdi Museum

On your right, amidst the beautiful Alsatian boutiques, you'll find the Bartholdi Museum. Housed on a three-storey building, it showcases the paintings and sculptures of Auguste Bartholdi, the artist behind the iconic Statue of Liberty. You'll also find sketches, photographs and models of the works and monuments he created over the course of his life. Among his best-known works in France are the Lion of Belfort, the Vercingetorix Monument on Jaude Square in Clermont-Ferrand, and the Bartholdi Fountain on the Place des Terreaux in Lyon, just outside the City Hall. He also designed most of the statues you'll see in Colmar. You'll find some of his works in Paris, in the Père Lachaise Cemetery, for example, as well as others in Switzerland and the USA, like the Capitol fountain in Washington DC. You might not know this, but Auguste Bartholdi was also a painter! You can find some of his paintings in the museum before you. There's even a room set up to resemble his last apartment in Paris, featuring some of his old furniture and memorabilia. To put it simply, it's a fascinating museum where you can learn all about the life and work of this renowned artist. Plus, it's all on display in a beautiful setting reminiscent of late 19th-century apartments!
