The courthouse of Bastia
The Bastia audio-guided tour stops you before the courthouse, at the end of the street. The foundation stone of the building was laid in 1852, on the initiative of the city's magistrates, who wished for a building worthy of their function.
A tragedy in 1932
After six years of work, the courthouse was inaugurated in 1858, in the presence of many dignitaries. But on 21 April 1932, a tragedy struck the city: the roof collapsed during a hearing, causing the death of seventeen people and many injuries, among them lawyers, gendarmes and the accused. This tragic event remains engraved in the memory of the people of Bastia.
