Beaux-Arts and Archeological Museum

In order discover and understand Vienne’s rich history, there's nothing like a visit to the Beaux-Arts and Archeological Museum ! Housed in the elegant building in front of you, ruins of the city's rich past are unveiled here, in the 3 sections of the museum. This venue brings together collections from the Neolithic to present day, remarkable paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries and Viennese ceramics dating back to medieval times. It is housed in a former grain trading hall built here in 1823, on Miremont Square. The owner, Mister Miremont, was the mayor of the town between 1816 and 1830. At that time, the huge archbishop's palace next door and many other buildings had just been demolished, to make room for the city's ever-growing population. A square was thus created, at the same time as the grain market. In 1895, the building was turned into a museum and library. Visits are still available today, for those wishing to retrace Vienne's history, which began over 2,000 years ago.
