Biovès Gardens

These beautiful gardens, named after Emile Biovès—the former mayor of Menton in the late 19th century—are the perfect spot for a peaceful stroll, with their lush greenery and colourful flowerbeds brightening up the square. But come February, they turn into something truly magical during Menton’s famous Lemon Festival, “La Fête du Citron”. Each year, this unique event draws over 200,000 visitors to the town. Held across various parts of the city, the festival celebrates the lemon—a fruit that’s been grown here since the 15th century. And no wonder it’s so beloved: Menton lemons are known for their sweetness, gentle acidity, and rich fragrance. By the 1800s, Menton even earned the title of lemon capital! So what better way to pay tribute to this world-famous fruit than with a celebration like no other? The gardens are filled with dazzling citrus sculptures, colourful parades of floats made entirely from lemons and oranges roll through the streets, and exhibitions pop up all over town. For two weeks each February, these gardens are transformed into a living work of art.
