The origins of the gardens go back to the eighteenth century, after Pope Innocent XII decided to create a bishopric in Blois. The cathedral, freshly inaugurated in 1700, was chosen as the seat, and terraced gardens were laid out on its surroundings. Overlooking the Loire, they offered the bishop a peaceful setting, which has today become a public space appreciated by walkers.
