The arcades of Rue de Boigne
The Chambéry audio-guided tour has you stroll under the arcades of Rue de Boigne, an elegant thoroughfare that links the château to the Elephant fountain. This street with its entirely Italian appearance is one of the finest in the city.
A thoroughfare willed by the Count de Boigne
The street was opened at the beginning of the nineteenth century thanks to the generosity of the Count de Boigne, a child of Chambéry who became immensely rich in the service of the princes of India. On his return to his native city, he became one of its great benefactors and financed many improvements. Its arcades, inspired by the Turin model, shelter passers-by from the rain as from the sun and give the street its very particular character.
What there is to see
Lined with shops under its covered galleries, Rue de Boigne aligns its arcades in a perfect perspective between the château and the Elephant fountain. Its façades in warm tones recall the Italian influence of Savoy. It is the shopping artery and the emblematic walk of Chambéry, to be strolled without haste.
